Writing requires daily practice to achieve better experience and perfection. Each writer writes in his or her own style. The tone and way of conveying ideas also differs from person to person. Writing is done for a specific task and for a specific purpose. Some writing is simple such as articles, content writing etc. Writing such as research work, white papers, technical writing and so on can be a little more challenging and requires niche skills.
There are four styles of writing such as
• Expository – this style of writing is to explain and is a subject oriented writing style. In this style authors focus on explaining a concept or a story without voicing their own personal ideas about it. Examples are essays and this is one of the most common forms of writing. The author only explains facts as it is and cannot tamper with the facts or add his or her own personal opinions. This kind of writing is done to explain facts, and is a logical form of writing. Other examples of expository writing are textbooks, how to articles, recipes, news stories, business, technical or scientific writing etc.
• Descriptive writing is used to describe a character, an event or a place in detail. This writing style can be poetic and describes places, people, events, situations, locations and makes the reader actually visualize what he reads. This form of writing is used in poetry, journals, diary writing, nature writing, descriptive passages etc
• Persuasive writing is about convincing the reader about the author’s ideas. To do this, the author includes justifications and reasons or explanations of his or her point of view. This style of writing is done in newspapers, advertisements, reviews of books, music, movies, restaurants and so on and complaint letters, cover letters etc.
• Narrative writing is mainly aimed at telling a story as the name suggests. The author creates characters and tells you what happens to them in first person. This kind of writing is done in novels, short stories, poetry, autobiography, anecdotes, etc.
